Foot pain is no laughing matter as anyone with plantar fasciitis knows only too well. And yet, foot specialists know that this agonizing condition is caused when the plantar fascia tendon becomes overstretched and damaged; becoming aggravated, inflamed and painful. Specialists know both how, and why, the plantar fascia becomes overstretched. And doctors know which groups of people are at risk.
Treatments for plantar fasciitis are readily available, easily discovered online and offline, and are simple to follow and highly effective. And yet many people continue to suffer with excruciating foot pain because the treatments do not work. Why is this?
The reason why plantar fasciitis is so difficult to cure initially stems from the location of the condition itself, namely on the soles of the feet. This is probably the most awkward part of the body to treat because of the huge stresses and strains that the feet are placed under during everyday movement.
One of the most effective ways to treat foot pain is to stay off the feet, resting them as much as possible and elevating them to reduce the inflammation which causes the pain. And feet are notoriously difficult to rest in today's modern society! With increasing stresses and the overwhelming pressures to "get things done" it is very difficult for anyone with even a semi-active lifestyle to stay off their feet and allow their plantar fasciitis to heal.
And this is why many people opt to treat their condition in their sleep, using night splints. These are highly effective treatments for plantar fasciitis. They are designed to be worn overnight and hold the foot in a flexed state so that the plantar tendon is stretched out, allowing it to heal naturally in an elongated state. This minimizes the risk that it will stretch suddenly and tug painfully on the heel bone when the first steps are taken in the morning.
The problem is that some people find that plantar fasciitis night splints uncomfortable and hot to wear overnight. And although there are a wide variety of splints to choose from, a lot of folks give up on them as soon as they have a bad experience, rather than find an alternative and possibly more suitable night splint. But there is another problem.
Night splints only work if they are worn all night AND for enough nights to allow the plantar injury to heal.
Many people simply do not wear a night splint for long enough to allow it enough time to cure their plantar fasciitis effectively.
And this pattern can also be seen for other treatments. Exercises, taping, massage etc are all effective treatments for plantar fasciitis, but ONLY if given sufficient time to work. The human body takes time to heal. The world may have speeded up, but the healing time of the human body has not.
If you have plantar fasciitis and the treatments for it are not working, ask yourself honestly whether you have actually given them time to work. Plantar fasciitis treatments are effective. Give them time to work and you too could cure your foot pain for good.
